PRESIDENT'S REPORT

MCKC had a good showing of members at the Responsible Dog Ownership Day event in StillwaterBob Tucker, Marc Crews, Deby Harber, Lori Finlayson, Pam Clifton, Jana Davis, Bonnie Parker, Sherry Brisco, and Georgia Shipley.  Many of our members manned Meet The Breeds booths, showed their dogs, and worked where needed.  Pam and I wound up in the Concession Stand almost all day so didn't get to see much but everybody agreed we had a great time and it was a very well organized event.  Kudos to Stacy Mason with the AKC.  The plan is to move this event around the state and that it will be in Tulsa soon.

Six of us, including a representative from Arby's, one of the sponsors of the Children's Art Show At The Dog Show, judged the entries for this year's show.  Once again we had a huge amount of wonderful artwork with some startlingly great work.  The Art Show is always a highlight of the Fall Cluster.

There is a lot of interest in Mid-Continent and we are welcoming new members at every meeting!  We need new blood and new workers with the challenges ahead.  As many of you know we had to move the Fall Cluster downtown to the Convention Center from Expo Square because of the Arabian Show.  The Convention Center is not available for our 2009 dates so the Board and the Cluster are looking into alternatives.  We could just not hold a fall show in 2009 or hold it on a different date for one year.  We could move the Fall Cluster to another date permanently and then hold it at Expo Square or the Convention Center.  If we go back to Expo Square there are new buildings that we could use that are less expensive than the building we used before (profits have shrunk so expenses need to be a concern).  We could also cease to hold a spring show in Grove and instead hold back-to-back shows (Sunday/Monday) with the Fall Cluster.  And all this has to be coordinated around available dates (with no other show within 200 miles), an available show site, and an available date for Purina backing.  When we fit all the pieces together the Board will present a recommendation to the membership.  In the meantime if you have any ideas or input please contact me!

You may know that the Oklahoma Ring Stewards Club is disbanding the end of this year.  We will not have a group to handle the stewarding at our Spring 2009 show in Grove.  If you are interested in being Chief Ring Steward and coordinating our ring stewards PLEASE CONTACT ME!

Children’s Art Show is Ready to Display

Another year of inspiring art has been judged and is ready to view.  Students from kindergarten to 12th grade entered their creations in our yearly art show.  The t-shirt winner was especially exciting this year, with a creative new twist on how to do the shirt. The shirt will be in black and white and I’m sure you will all enjoy it and the sentiment it promotes.  Students continue to impress us with their ability.  Be sure to view the art and enjoy the catalog!

Junior’s Classes Start Thursday!

This Thursday, October 2nd we start our four week Junior Handling Class.  Timing is perfect to prepare for our fall show.   We have a range of Juniors and maybe a couple of Seniors that are anxious to learn the ropes of Junior Handling.  We hope to have many of the same faces back to assist and hopefully a few new ones.  There is room for everyone.  If you can bring a solid show dog for a Junior to learn with, we would greatly appreciate the help.  Karen is doing refreshments for the first two weeks, anyone want to volunteer for the 3rd week???  Classes are held at Companion Dog School and 7:00 p.m.  Don’t miss out on the fun!

September 9, 2008 MEMBERSHIP MEETING MINUTES

The meeting was called to order at 7:14 pm by President Karen Gibson.   Two AKC video’s on Canine Degenerative Myelopathy were shown.  President Karen Gibson welcomed  new members Ellen Lucas and Bonnie Parker and asked guests to introduce themselves. Show wins were announced.

Charles Simmons made a motion to accept the minutes of the August meeting as printed in the newsletter.  The motion was seconded by Nancy Pfiefer  and passed by the membership.

President – Karen Gibson announced the nominating committee for the 2009 election.  Charles Simmons will be the Chairman along with Sherry Brisco and Peggy Tucker.  Marc Crews is alternate.  The audit of the MCKC books was held with Treasurer Barbara Jeleski and club members Marc Crews, Julia Ziegler and Tricia Bogdon.

Nominations for the Betty Charles and Good Sportsman awards will be made at the October meeting.  Voting will be in December and the awards will be presented in January.

Vice-President – Lori Finlayson reported on the Art Show at the Dog Show.  Charles will take flyers to several Arby’s locations and Ellen volunteered to post flyers.  Also flyers for the Junior Showmanship class were available to members.

Secretary – Deby Harber reported that AKC is sending $200 to MCKC to be used however we see fit as our obedience show is a regional qualifying event.

Treasurer – Barbara Jeleski reported that the checking balance is $1, 980.02, Agility balance is $11,754.92 and CD’s of $17,170.88 and $11,363.50.

Show Committee – Show chair Karen Gibson reported that the OK Ring Stewards are disbanding in 2009.  We will be responsible for ring stewards for the spring show in Grove.  Our usual date for our fall show in 2009 will have to be changed due to the unavailability of the Convention Center.

Charles Simmons reminded everyone of Paws in the Park on October 18 at Jenks Riverwalk. Sandy Wyman will administer CGC tests if space is available.

Membership applications and recommendation letters were received from Jamie Wooley and Steve Schroeder, Carla Link, Carol Minden and Jim Harber.  They will be voted on at the next meeting.

Karen reminded the membership to pay Sherry Brisco for trophies.
