MEETING INFORMATION

The Annual Meeting of MCKC will be Tuesday, December 9th during which we will elect the Officers, Board Members, and AKC Delegate for 2009.  We will also be voting on The Betty Charles and AKC Good Sportsmanship Awards from among the members nominated at the November Club meeting.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Our fall show is now in the history books and overall it went very well.  We had more publicity this year than ever before thanks to Lori Finlayson - in addition to ads and spots in the newspapers we also had TV coverage.  And once again I feel that the most impressive showing we had was the Children's Art Show At The Dog Show - I am always amazed at the art kids can create!  This event is the brainchild of Lori Finlayson and she was once again ably aided by Charles & Phyllis Simmons who handled all the matting and mounting of the over 360 pieces of art.   I'll apologize in advance to anybody I forget to name who worked during the show:  new members Carol Minden & Jamie Wooley helped with set-up and move-in, and Bonnie Parker helped our Trophy Chairman Sherry Brisco with labels for the trophies and Phyllis Simmons and Deby Harber who helped hand out trophies the day of the show.  Our mainstay on the speaker's stand/catalog sales were Marc Crews (also my Assistant Show Chairman), Bob Tucker, and Charles Simmons.  Judges Hospitality was ably handled by Lori Finlayson.  And of course I have to thank Obedience Chairman Barbara Jeleski who works from the beginning of set-up through the last of the shows.  The show is always a result of the efforts of so many people!

Three delegates from each club in the Tulsa Area Cluster voted during the shows this year as to the fate of all future fall shows.  I asked as many exhibitors and handlers as I could where they wanted our shows to be held and overwhelmingly the answer was the fairgrounds with parking being the #1 reason.  All of our delegates voted to move permanently, beginning in 2009, to the fairgrounds on a late August/early September date.  All of the other delegates voted to remain at the Convention Center - moving to the August/September dates in 2009 and then back to our October/November dates in 2010.  At the November MCKC membership meeting a motion was made and passed that MCKC move to the fairgrounds in 2009 on the August/September dates, holding back-to-back shows as soon as possible, and to invite another club to join us.  The Board will be working on implementing this motion.

Spring 2009 Grove Show  - I need an Obedience Chairman, Trophy Chairman, and Chief Ring Steward.  Please volunteer if you can!  This show is on Easter Sunday.

November 11, 2008 MEMBERSHIP MEETING MINUTES – quorum in attendance

The meeting was called to order at 7:25 by President Karen Gibson

Karen thanked Peggy Tucker for bringing it to her attention that our regular meeting place – Hardesty Library – would be closed on our meeting night.  She also thanked Carol Minden for making Michael V’s banquet room available for us on short notice and also for providing snacks for the meeting.

Guests introduced.

President – No report

Vice-President – Lori Finlayson reported that the Children’s Art Show was a big success and thanked Charles and Phyllis Simmons for their hard work in matting and hanging the artwork.

Treasurer – Barbara reported the regular account balance is $13,764.93, Agility account - $754.92, and CD’s for $17,276.54 and $11,433.43.  Barbara has moved the bulk of the agility account balance to the regular account.  The fall show profit will be approximately $7,500.00.

Secretary – Miscellaneous correspondence.

Charles Simmons reported that we still have Art Show T-shirts available for sale.  He is in the process of returning the art work to the kids.

Spring Show – Lori Finlayson Show Chairman reported that we will need an Obedience Chair, Trophy Chair and Chief Ring Steward for the Grove Show.

Cluster – Karen reported that the Cluster voted to keep the fall shows at the Convention Center although the MCKC Cluster delegates all voted to move the show back to the Quick Trip Center at the fairgrounds.  The show date for 2009 will have to be changed from the regular weekend because of a conflict with the downtown location.

Nominating Committee – Charles Simmons, nominating committee chair read the nominations and Karen Gibson asked for nominations from the floor.  There were none so the committee nominations stand.

Karen passed around forms for the Betty Charles and AKC Good Sportsman Awards nominations.  Voting will be at the December membership meeting.

New Business:

Peggy Tucker made a motion to stop giving trophies at our shows.  Motion was seconded by Charles Simmons.  After discussion from the membership a vote was taken and the motion was defeated.

Peggy then made a motion to only give trophies for Best in Show, Group placements and Junior Showmanship.  No second was made – motion died.

Marc Crews told about a young woman he met at the K-9 Experience in Stillwater that is a Vet student at OSU and also is showing a Kerry Blue Terrier in conformation.  She is from Tulsa and did not have the money for a grooming table.  Marc will contact Canadian Valley KC and also AKC to get information on their scholarship programs.  A motion was made by Lori Finlayson and seconded by Marc Crews to award the student, Alecia Davis, with a grooming table and arm at our Award Dinner in January.  Motion passed.

Lori suggested Jay Cronley – writer for the Tulsa World – be given a community award from MCKC and also be asked to speak at our Awards dinner.  Motion was made by Marc Crews and seconded by Lori Finlayson.  Motion passed.

Charles Simmons made a motion to move the MCKC show to the 35th weekend (end of August) to the Quick Trip Center at the fairgrounds and to have back-to-back shows.  Jim Harber seconded the motion.  After discussion by the membership the motion was passed.
